We all dream of a beach holiday, lazing around all day on the sand, swimming and sunbathing. However, no matter how much we love the beach there are times when something different is in order. Even if it’s just a Phuket shopping trip, a fast ride on a jet-ski, or a trip to Wat Chalong for some spiritual respite.

Phuket has all kinds of activities going on, just do some research online and you’ll see all the exciting opportunities available when a change from sunbathing is required. Day trips out at sea are very popular as Phuket’s coastline is spectacular, particularly tours out into the Andaman Sea.

Phi Phi Islands

The Phi Phi Islands are one of the most popular island day trips from Phuket as the tropical scenery is stunning with unusual rock formations, and rich deep blue waters swarm with vibrant marine life. Tour boats leave early morning and return by late afternoon.

You can take a private boat charter or a tour, they usually pick you up from the hotel, otherwise get a ferry from Rassada Pier near Phuket Town. A speedboat takes around 45 minutes and the ferry 90 minutes, or choose to take a more leisurely day trip and really enjoy the picturesque views.

There are two main islands, Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh. The ferry arrives at Phi Phi Don and there are plenty of restaurants, bars and shops here, whilst Phi Phi Leh is uninhabited and home to the world-famous Maya Bay. They can both get crowded with tourist boats so don’t expect it to be too tranquil or peaceful.

Phang Nga Bay

Phang Nga Bay is one of the most beautiful bays of Thailand, famous for its lofty limestone rock formations. James Bond Island gets very busy as every tourist wants to see this famous setting from the movie. The beauty of this place is amazing and sure to be one of the highlights of your holiday. As the boat cruises through the Bay’s remarkable scenery a sense of serenity and peace falls that is quite special.

Koh Yao Islands

Koh Yao Noi is easily accessible from Phuket. It’s a quiet island with a small village, some resorts on the east coast, restaurants and budget-friendly bungalows.  It’s possible to take a day trip here and back from Bang Rong pier, or stay overnight.

Koh Yao Yai is right next door and a popular place to visit by longtail or speed boat for the day. The whole island is lined with beaches and the views over to Phang Nga Bay are unbeatable. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing break, then one of the Koh Yao islands are the answer.
