In our opinion Phang Nga is one of the most beautiful places in Thailand, if you are staying in Phuket then it is very accessible and we highly recommend a visit. With limestone mountains and islands set against a backdrop of mangroves and sparkling emerald waters, you can imagine you are in another world where stress from real life is far, far away.
There are a few different ways to travel to, and explore, the area of Phang Nga. Either go by road to the national park and then rent a sea canoe or longtail boat to view the karsts and islands, or take a speedboat directly from Phuket that will also include sightseeing around the park. Phuket fishing is also a popular activity in this area.
Our favourite way to enjoy Phang Nga is to take a Phuket boat tour, spend the day cruising and really enjoy the scenery enroute as well as in the park itself. This way we get to spend time with our friends and family and can relax in the knowledge that everything is being taken care of for us. Read on for more details on how to get to Phang Nga Bay and decide which way suits you best.
Speed Boat to Phang Nga
Opting to travel by speed boat ensures you get to the park as quickly as possible and can spend longer there visiting the archipelago. If you book a tour they should pick you up from your accommodation early in the morning to take you to the pier where the boat leaves from, and drop you back around 5pm or 6pm. A professional tour company will provide a licensed Thai guide with a good level of English, all transportation, lunch and plenty of drinking water.
Long-tail Boats & Canoe
Some tour companies transport their guests by mini-bus to Phang Nga and then you explore the park by a traditional long-tail boat or canoe. These are very popular as you can go right inside the caves which are hidden within these limestone rocks and discover the secret lagoons within. A guide is generally provided with a canoe tour, these are local people who know everything there is to know about the area and can show you all the best places.
Boat Charter
Taking a cruise boat from Phuket is the most relaxing way to reach the bay, starting out in the early morning you also get to see our island from its best vantage point. Sail around the bay before stopping off at a deserted beach for a delicious lunch. Snorkelling in the afternoon, jumping off the deck of the boat into the cool waters of the Andaman and snoozing on deck add up to the perfect day trip.
Everything is included in an organised boat tour, all the equipment needed for snorkelling, snacks and refreshments, lunch and fresh fruit. There will be a professional licensed tour guide on hand to ensure everything runs smoothly and an experienced crew.
