As we have been living in Phuket for quite a long time now we know all the best beaches on the island. There’s all different kinds of reasons someone might rate a beach as their favourite, generally it depends on what they like to do.
If I go to the beach I want to sunbathe under the trees and have a swim. Other people might want to sit in a restaurant and watch the waves. Some beaches in Phuket are better for snorkelling, kayaking, wind boarding, exercising, or Phuket boat trips. Here are some of our favourites.
Kata Noi Beach
Kata Noi Beach is the next one to Kata Beach, which is quite beautiful too. We’ve listed Kata Noi because it’s much quieter and less developed. Set in a small bay the scenery is of cliffs and sea, the sand is golden and it’s perfect for swimming. At the further end of the beach the snorkelling is good with colourful coral and brightly-coloured fish.
Nai Harn Beach
Nai Harn is our favourite beach of all as it’s got plenty of shade, so you can sit under the trees if you don’t like to be in the direct sunshine. The water is ideal for swimming in the high season and it has a natural wild look that is quite charming. Surfers can be seen here at one end of the beach and there are no jet skis to be heard! At the back under the trees are some restaurants for seafood and refreshing fruit shakes.
Surin Beach
Surin Beach is a long strip of golden sand with casuarina trees at the top and some local Thai style restaurants. It’s a stunning place to enjoy a beer or snack whilst watching the sun go down off the Andaman Coast, or take a Phuket cruise for a unique experience.
Word of Warning
A word of warning to every beach goer – Phuket beaches might look glorious but they can also be dangerous. Some days the currents can be very strong and swimmers need to take care, be aware that some have an undertow. Most of the popular beaches now have lifeguards so always watch out for any red flags on the beach as this means the water is dangerous and you should not go in.
If you want to see the best of the beaches, then there’s no other way than seeing them from the deck of a boat. You can truly appreciate the beauty of the island when viewed from a distance on a sunset cruise Phuket. Step on board MV Champagne and we’ll show you the best beaches where you can swim and snorkel in peaceful surroundings.
