The Phi Phi Islands consist of several small islands, but the largest two, and the most visited, are Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Ley. Although they are the largest, they are very small in comparison to Phuket, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty there to keep you busy. Of all the islands around Phuket, Phi Phi should be on your list of those to visit.
Phi Phi Don
The main island of Phi Phi Don is where the ferry from Phuket arrives. They will let you off on the small pier and then you have to walk as there are no taxis or buses to transport you around. If you have booked accommodation, then the hotel might send a porter to pick you up.
There’s plenty of bungalows, bars and restaurants, shops and diving centres aimed at keeping the tourists happy. The island is small enough to walk from one end to the other in no time at all, but there’s so much going on along the way this is hardly ever accomplished!
There are lots of bars in Phi Phi, many of them along the beach and you’re sure to catch a fire show or two. There’s also lots of opportunity for rock climbing with courses ranging from half-day introductions to three-day advanced ones.
Phi Phi Ley
Nobody lives on Phi Phi Ley, but boat loads of tourists visit every day since it was brought to the worlds attention in 2000 when the movie ‘The Beach’ was filmed on Maya Bay. It’s on everyone’s ‘to see’ list these days so can get crowded in the high season.
The Phi Phi islands are one of the most popular destinations in Thailand for diving and you’ll find courses for beginners and the advanced. The marine life is diverse and hopefully you’ll spot Manta Rays and Whale Sharks, Turtles and Moray Eels, and maybe even an octopus.
The islands are simply beautiful and the surrounding ocean and islands remarkable, they really must be seen if you are visiting southern Thailand. The best way to visit is to join Phuket day tours.
At La Moet our Phi Phi Island tour slowly cruises to this gorgeous destination. We promise relaxation and the chance to chill out whilst admiring the spectacular vistas.
